I am finally able to share my latest quilt with you. Because it is a big quilt, I had to take it outside for photos. It measures 78”x84”.
The design was inspired by this quilt I made last year. I LOVE its simplicity.
Simple design and fabric work well with elaborate quilting and I was happy to do it.
It was cloudy and it even started to snow!
I think it is one of my favorite quilts.
I ADORE the look of the light color thread on these colors.
The original idea was a two-color quilt but I did not have enough fabric on hand and I had to add the third color. It was a great idea!
There are 132 – 6” blocks. The quilting is the same for all the blocks but it runs in different directions from the center toward the corners on the red half and the green half of the quilt. I planned this and I love how it turned out.
A friend of mine asked me how long the quilting took me. 16 hours- 8 hours in a day and then 8 in the next day.
I know people say PRACTICE is the key. While practice is important, I think the most important thing is the QUALITY of the time you spend quilting. If you have two hours for quilting and you keep adjusting tension of the thread or changing thread and needles, where is the benefit? First, you have to learn how your sewing machine works and then your free motion quilting experiences will be better and better.
I quilted with Aurifil and Schmetz Jeans needles.
My favorite photo!
I love the colors, texture, design – everything! And especially the idea of mitered corners.
It makes me want to sew another one. Meanwhile, I am happy to admire the versions my testers made- thank you so much for your help!

This is just amazing. I love the three colours together. I never would have chosen that light brown for the background, but it is brilliant.

I love how this turned out, so beautiful! I am new-ish to quilting with feathers and I noticed that your feathers in the border go clockwise. So that means either you quilted the border with all of the quilt in the harp, or you can quilt feathers upside-down… or do you have a longarm? I was just curious. I can only quilt feathers right side up at this point!
