From time to time, any quilter needs a little variation. It could be a new tool, a new technique or a different fabric than what we usually use.
To me, it was this precision knife! Inspired by amazing papercut artists and dreaming (day and night!) of INTRICATE designs that I want to cut out from fabric, I started with some simple projects.
Some fusible web fused to fabric and a quick cut out process.
Removing the paper backing – not only fun, but that paper backing will be used as a stencil…
— with these little cut out pieces…
And before you know, not one, but TWO little quilts are finished, making you anxious to start other two…
Fun (and easy) quilting that can be done with the darning foot or with the walking foot.
So these are the next ones. One – with a black background, because with this technique, working with black or white feels the same – EASY!
The same quick and easy quilting.
And other two samples. Simple solid fabrics work great with these simple designs, but other fabrics work even better. I just wasn’t prepared for all the opportunities these designs and this technique bring, but other fabrics are on the way to me…
I can’t say which process is more fun: the cutting out or putting the cutout pieces back, like a puzzle…
More to share in the next days…
Meanwhile, if you want to learn more about the HUGE BENEFITS of this technique, check out the Double Reward quilt pattern. I promise, the name is well-deserved!

Hope I can make this. It’s incredible! Thanks for providing the technique. I wish you would do a video tutorial of making one that I could buy.
Thank you kindly
Sean
