The International Quilt Festival in Houston just finished. You can see its winners here.
Too bad that there aren’t details of the quilts, these photos can’t reflect the real beauty of the quilts.
My dear friend Sanda has surfed the Internet for pictures from Festival. And she found pictures of my quilts too. What a joy ! Because I wasn’t there, I was so happy to see my quilts in pictures !
Thank you, Karen, I appreciate your effort to take so many pictures to share with us. And thank you because you took pictures of my quilts !
You can see hundreds of pictures from International Quilt Festival on Karen’s album.
I don’t know how easy or hard it is to be a finalist at Houston, but I know for sure that it is hard to win a ribbon. All the quilts are incredible, every quilt is unique and I think that for judges it is hard to choose the winners.
Just before the beginning of the Festival I received the Journal of The International Quilt Association. On the first page there is an article about how the quilts are judged, about the competition and about what should be the ultimate purpose of making quilts: to create a beautiful piece. Getting into a show or winning a ribbon should be secondary to the act of creation. I like this article.
But I think as well that a competition is a good reason to make better quilts and a way for progress of any quilter. Soon I will begin my next quilt ! I hope it will be better than my previous quilts !
This is the article. Click on the images to larger view.

Your quilts are beautiful. I think they should’ve won a ribbon in Houston, though I would sure hate to be a judge at one of those shows. So many wonderful quilts. I did not go but wish I could have. Can’t wait to see your next project!

It’s a pleasure to “meet you” through our mutual love of quilting. I enjoyed the quilts at Houston and took only a fraction of photos – mainly the ones I personally liked – can you tell I liked yours!!! I am eager to read some of your earlier posts to find out more about you and your fabulous work. I’m glad you were able to “see” your quilts hanging in Houston through the lens of my camera!

FELICITARI Geta!
