Do you remember these pieces, cut out from this top? 522 applique pieces, backed with fusible web. I did nothing to achieve them! I was just making another quilt!
This is the quilt.
Isn’t this reverse applique technique cool? It is inspired by the work of wonderful papercut artist; they make such intricate cutting on small pieces of paper, something I could never make with fabric. But they throw away the cutout pieces.
With fabric, I work with bigger designs and I don’t want to waste beautiful pieces of fabric, already cut in wonderful shapes, so I decided to use them to make another quilt. In the end, I will have two quilts, with positive-negative designs.
So here is the second top.
I had to transfer the design to the fabric; I used to hate this task. But not anymore, not since I discovered the cheap, washable markers made for kids! So it was fun!
And the quilting! So much fun: feathers from start to finish!
This design measures 32”…
the quilt is 40”, so it wasn’t a difficult quilting.
I always have fun while quilting feathers. I used Aurifil 50wt thread for quilting, and there is nothing more important for free motion quilting than a thread that doesn’t break and keeps your sanity!
Yes, all those edges are raw and the quilt was washed!
I was so grateful for the rainbow fabric I used for binding!

I bought your pattern for the appliqué quilt, it should be in my email somewhere.. I’ve been packing to move and haven’t had time to try it yet. I’m curious to know what color thread you use to quilt? So many colors in your beautiful quilts!! I love everything you do!
