One of the variations of my new box pouch pattern is for a quick and easy to sew storage bag. If you use waterproof fabric you can use it as a shoe bag or for storing any stuff that can benefit from the features of the waterproof fabric: resistant to dirt, water, easy to clean and wash.
I think there are lots of types of waterproof fabrics; this one below is polyester covered with a PVC coating. It is a thin fabric, it does not wrinkle easily and it was very easy to sew it.
There are fabrics covered with a coating on both sides, this one is only one side waterproof, but I immersed a scrap in water and it seams the back does not absorb water.
This is my shoe bag.
It measures about 14” x 9” x 3” and at this size, it easily stores lady shoes in any size, even 2 pairs of sandals or slippers.
It is great to have such bags if you travel a lot or in the summer, for storing items needed for activities that involve water or other outdoor activities.
When not in use, you can store the shoe bags flat and they do not take too much space.
You can sew the bags in any size you need and do not limit yourself to shoes. As I said, you can use these waterproof storage bags for storing baby stuff or take a few in your beach bag.
The bags below are made with a cotton waterproof fabric. It is a little heavier and it wrinkles more than the polyester fabric.
Now when you visit fabric stores and see waterproof fabric, you know what to use it for!

Happy sewing!

I have not been able to find waterproof fabric, or PUL at all at my local shops. As for Scheepjes brand, I will not buy their products no matter now nice the colors until they move their manufacturing away from China. There are other more ethical countries they can have their yarns made in.
