Now that you know that you can create kaleidoscope blocks even from small pieces of fabric (see yesterday’s blog post), if you have more fabric at hand I think it is great to use it to add some borders or even backing to your quilt – just to show the original fabric.
I joined a few orphan blocks into a little piece, I layered it with batting and did a little quilting, just to keep the layers together…
and instead of backing and binding, I chose to finish my piece with this backing (see the tutorial: How to sew double sided napkins).
Here is my little quilt; after the backing was attached to the front, I did some more quilting through all the layers.
The result: a beautiful little piece that does not require lots of fabric. You can show off the beautiful original print fabric used (my fabric is from the HAND PICKED collection by Maywood Studio, this print is available even as 108” wide backing) to create the wonderful blocks.
