Do do save your fusible web scraps? At the moment, I can’t find this product in Romania, so yes, I save the scraps! Here is what you can do with the smallest scraps, but keep reading until the end of this article because this trick is essential when working with large designs.
Let’s say you need to fuse a 10” square to fabric and you don’t have such big piece of fusible web. You can use smaller pieces, cut them carefully…
and fuse them next to each other, aligning the edges (do not overlap pieces). When you remove the paper backing, you will not see that instead of one big square, you used 4 smaller squares.
If you need to copy a design on fusible web, use the same trick. You can use strips instead of squares. The heart design below is very small and I used a few narrow strips.
Tape the strips carefully over the design as shown then copy the design.
Then carefully fuse the strips on the back of your fabric.
This design is about 4”…
…but how about a 40” design? Use the same technique! This design was transferred on three pieces of fusible web, 17” wide.
These fusible web pieces were then fused to fabric.
This is the end result- more pictures of this reverse applique quilt here.

I hope this inspires you to use small pieces of fusible web and big pieces as well, to create big designs.
Happy sewing!
