Sewing these cakes was so much fun! At first, it was the 8 slice cake. Then I chose to make a 12 slice cake. My 6-year-old nephew watched me while sewing; he immediately noted: the boxes should be smaller, to fit and make a complete circle, right, Geta? He borrowed my templates and made his own pieces, out of paper. Then he asked me to stitch his paper boxes by machine. Which I did (you … [Read more...]
Fabric Gift Boxes- 12 Slice Cake
Hello, friends! I am happy to share my new fabric gift boxes with you, assembled into a 12 slice cake. Isn't this a wonderful way to present special gifts to special people? The fabric pieces for the lid boxes were fussy cut and I was so grateful that I have these fruit fabrics in my stash. I have a piece of the strawberry fabric on white too (and I wanted to use it), but I did not … [Read more...]
I quit sugar!
Yes, I did! 6 months ago! More about it soon! So how about a sugar-free, calorie-free cake? And reusable?? This is the first project; I am grateful for the apple print I had in my stash. Aren't they great as gift boxes? You could sew only a few... ... or a whole cake! The fussy cutting makes it so interesting, it really doesn't need any additional decoration. It's … [Read more...]
My latest fabric bowl
It looks more like a box than a bowl (the sides are tall-5'') -I just wanted to keep my pretty boys and girls intact! For the first time I used Decovil interfacing (the heavyweight stuff) for a bowl/box and it works wonderfully! I still have some blocks from this collection (bigger and so beautiful) and I hope to use them soon! Happy weekend, Geta … [Read more...]
Easy fussy cutting- quick quilting tips
How many times we don't even try something new because we don't have the right tool on hand? And many times it's because we don't know the right information. I know that for years I wasn't interested in applique because I did not have a reliable water soluble marker (now I found the perfect markers and I can't stop designing applique quilts and patterns). I also know that I constantly avoid … [Read more...]

Playing with Hexagons
If I don't make quilts, I make bags. If I don't make bags, I make boxes - my friend Teodora is right. So here is my latest play session with hexagons. The fabrics used are " Vintage Modern" by Bonnie and Camille for Moda I started with this simple, tall hexagonal box. Then I made a lid for it - I like to keep things out of dust. Simple to make - just 7 … [Read more...]
Organizing Jewelry…
in this treasure chest. At first I thought to make two little boxes. Then I thought a stack of boxes would be even better. I spent some time choosing the fabrics - I think I made the perfect choice ('Connections' collection by Paintbrush Studio for Fabri-Quilt). And because I had 3 colors, I made 3 sets. Please, please, PRETEND the buttons are jewelry! The third set did not fit so … [Read more...]
New boxes
Look what I whipped up in a few hours, for a friend who loves turquoise. The set measures about 11'' and the boxes are roomy... I could do this again and again, in every possible color combination... But now I have to add binding to my miniature quilt. … [Read more...]
New box
Sorry for the lack of posts lately. Many things happened here, you know, things that you are afraid of but that always come ... sooner or later... Hospital, cancer, chemo... my father passed away last week... I still can't believe these words are true... So today I started sewing again, and I tried a new box. I want this one to hang on the wall. Just the first try... I love the shape, but … [Read more...]
