WIP- Hexy Cubes
In the last weeks I kept this project hidden in a box - I thought I don't have time for it. But you don't know when a sister comes, demanding :"I want to stitch hexagons, I have only 30 minutes, let's stitch!". So yesterday I cut some hexagon templates and fabric and now I have made some progress- I added the dark grey hexies; 100 more hexies and I will finish it. I keep thinking how to quilt … [Read more...]
Teach Me 12- Smocking fabric
Here is my first attempt at smocking fabric. I love it and I imagine many uses for such textured fabric. I learned to do this following this easy tutorial. It's not that I don't already have too many boards on Pinterest, but I created a new one, Fabric Texture. Now back to the boring task of writing a pattern! Have a great sewing week, Geta Edited: One of my … [Read more...]
Whip stitch by machine
Because most of the time you can find me using the sewing machine, I tried to make English Paper Piecing faster. I basted the fabric to paper templates with glue and instead of stitching the pieces by hand, I whip stitched them by machine. I placed the pieces right sides together and stitched the edges with a very narrow and dense zig-zag stitch. Yes, it was faster than stitching by hand. … [Read more...]
Hexagon Virus!
I contaminated one of my dear friends with the hexagon virus. She lives nearby and while I write this, I realize that in the future there will be opportunities to meet and stitch together. Her name is Luminita. I met her in 2007, in dramatic circumstances, for our family and for her as well. We helped each other, probably she helped us more than we helped her. And she became our … [Read more...]
International Quilting Day

Geta, Oana and Nina; and the third black cat of the house. My sisters call me "the boss" of this project. And as the boss I am allowed to stitch more and stitch the hardest parts. I am serious about this, … [Read more...]
Simple Patchwork Quilt Finished
I am relieved that I finished this huge quilt (pictures of the top are here; pattern here). The big size (96''x96'') was more a psychological obstacle :) Next time I will not let the big size stress me, the next quilt will be even bigger. The cotton batting was 4'' smaller than the top. I used it; I stretched it just a little and it worked fine. First I quilted the white sashings. With … [Read more...]
