Hand pieced!
After 10 years of aversion (or maybe just fear) for hand piecing, I learned that I enjoy not only piecing hexagons by hand, but even bigger pieces. Compared to 3/4'' hexagons, these pieces are really large. The whole piece measures about 25''. And I pieced it like hexagons: paper templates, glue (instead of basting with thread - and I loved it!). A quick project. So far... I thought … [Read more...]
My First Ribbon
Do you remember this quilt ? I was so happy when it was accepted in the Judged Show of the International Quilt Association, "A World of Beauty", that takes place in Houston. And it won a ribbon - an Honorable Mention in the Innovative Applique category. A small award, but a HUGE encouragement! We all make quilts because they make us happy, but it’s great to know that all the time and hard … [Read more...]
44!
So we managed to take a pictures with all us. After my sisters kept telling me that we can't gather together for the weekend, on Saturday evening at 10 the doorbell rang and the house was invaded ! We don't make surprises to each other often (because we just can't keep secrets, especially if they are happy!), so I was shocked when I saw them. Saturday was a full working day for all of them, … [Read more...]
A Family Project
All her life, my mother made wonderful knitted clothes for her 4 daughters. Last year, I and my 3 sisters decided that it is our turn to make something for her. So we started a Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt. My sisters are not quilters but all of them were happy to learn how to sew hexy flowers. And they LOVE it! 17 months later, here is our finished project. It measures about … [Read more...]

Quilting done!
I'm done too! Yesterday I stitched for almost 12 hours to finish it. How fun it was to stitch the flowers and how boring to stitch the pebbles. It's now in the washing machine. With all the large seam allowances and cotton batting - it weights a lot. I knew that this will happen but I did not have other choices. I love the cotton batting because the fabric sticks so nicely to it, … [Read more...]
Better Quilter!
Thank you all who took the time to leave me your thoughts on my previous post. It wasn't my work that was criticized. But this is not important – what is amazing and sad is that there are quilters who speak out loud that they are superior just because they are making things in a certain way and think that quilting world is divided into "quilters" and "Quilters". When mentioning "Quilter", … [Read more...]
Quilter with capital Q
Some time ago I read on a blog about a quilter who was criticizing the work of another quilter, just in the front (face) of that quilter. And even more, she proclaimed herself a "Quilter with capital Q". Really ? Working on this quilt, I think I am not a "Quilter". Because I quilt it by machine. I would have loved to quilt it by hand - but this is something I couldn't achieve in this … [Read more...]
Quilting…
The quilt is basted! These are the templates I found under the seam allowances after I thought I removed them all ! It was easy to detect them -I rubbed my fingers over the surface of the top - you can feel where the texture is different and you can hear! But I am still wondering how quilted and washed paper would look like under the fabric! I hope I will not find out! I baste my quilts … [Read more...]
