I spent the last 9 days with my 2 year old nephew, Alex. It is more fun to play with him than to quilt. But it requires more patience than English paper piecing! Today I played on the computer and I made these designs for my newsletter subscribers. I hope you are having a great (sewing) week. Geta … [Read more...]
Another Kind of Grandmother’s Flower Garden Quilt
Never say "NEVER"! Fabrics, patterns and colors I did not like at all a few years ago are now my favorites. Techniques I thought I would never be able to do or enjoy, are now my favorites. The quilt below is the proof. Our tastes change and I love this. I finished this quilt and I enjoyed so much working on it. Size: 38''x38'' ( the flower sphere measures 30'' ); at this size, it … [Read more...]
WIP
Today I realized that the easiest way to photograph a quilt top is to lay it on a piece of cotton batting (or maybe a carpet). I usually lay it on the floor and no matter how nicely it is pressed, there is no way to keep it perfectly smooth and flat. I started the quilting... and I like how it turns out! Now to quilt some pebbles. … [Read more...]
Happy Stash
Here is the new addition to my stash. Ta Dot collection by Michael Miller - 37 fat quarters. Could you imagine something more beautiful ? I quilt because I love colors. And who could resist to these ? Before the arrival of these fabrics I told myself that I have now enough dots in my stash. But these colors are gorgeous. I think I need some yardage! Fly A Kite - Riley … [Read more...]

Another kind of Grandmother’s Flower Garden
I can't believe what I am about to write: "A 200 piece English paper pieced quilt is a quick project!" Here is my latest quilt top. It's a cloudy day here and I am disappointed that I can't take better pictures. The colors are brighter than in these pictures. I enjoyed so much to make it... and I am thinking about new designs and fabric combinations. Here is … [Read more...]
Making progress…
...on my new quilt. I thought that basting the fabric onto paper templates is the most time consuming step. But now I don't think so.I basted the 200 pieces in 2 days. This project teaches me how to be organized. I am so grateful that someone so clever invented this technique. It doesn't matter that you need time for hand stitching. Then you need time to remove the basting stitches. The … [Read more...]
New Project
New Quilt! I would like to make it in a week, but this is just a dream. English paper piecing, paper templates, hand stitching and 200 pieces, no way to make it so quickly. I selected the fabrics from my precious Fusions fat quarter box. I have in my stash even enough fabric (from the same line) for the two backgrounds. I have to wash them, meanwhile I am playing with the colors, … [Read more...]
Orphan Dresden Blocks
I continue to make (and collect orphan!) dresden fan blocks. I made these blocks a few weeks ago, for my green quilt. I wasn't too happy with them and I put them in a box. Some day I will try another version. The only thing I am sure about is that I want blocks that look like circles and not blocks that look like octagons. You can see in the photo below the difference between the blocks. My … [Read more...]
