I tried something and I am disappointed. I would have needed 4 polka dot fabrics. And I would have made 2 baby quilts at once. I have to come up with something else in the next 10 minutes! The rainbow quilt is quilted, I have to wash it. Wishing you a great weekend, Geta … [Read more...]
My Rainbow Quilt
I finished the top. At first I made this. This was the initial idea for the design. Please pretend that the floor is the background fabric. It would have been a quick and pretty quilt... Then a new idea and I made this... and this... Then I spent some time thinking of how to finish it. One of the ideas was to make a quilt with 12 sides. It would have been a pretty play mat for Alex. Or a … [Read more...]
Anxious to sew
These are the pieces for my next quilt- a baby quilt. Plus a little background. I already did things I usually don't like - templates, marking intersection points on fabric. The fabric - rainbow Kona cotton from my stash. I want to teach the colors to Alex. It might be just a dream, since Alex is only 19 months old. I don't think my hubby knows the difference between turquoise and fuchsia. … [Read more...]
Shopping in Romania
I spent the last week with my little nephew Alex. Surprisingly, I found out that it is easier to take care of a 19 month child than to sew quilts. Or maybe I am just tired of sewing... But definitely I am not tired of shopping. This time I visited one of the two local fabric stores.Usually I can't find what I need, but this time I was lucky. Wide fabric for the back of future quilts... I … [Read more...]
WIP- shadow trapunto quilt
The batting is cut away. Normally I would say that the hardest work is done. But not in this case. Actually I am quite nervous thinking of the next steps. I added a colored fabric under the organza so you can see the design better. It measures 52''x52''. This will not be the background. There will be something more... I hope there will be much more... I clipped the organza only … [Read more...]
New start
This post doesn't have pretty pictures. But I hope I will show you a beautiful quilt in a few weeks. I started a new shadow trapunto quilt. A large one - well, as large as my organza - a little bigger than 50''. As I have a small table, I thought to baste the layers on the floor... Here are batting and organza... and here I added the paper pattern. I had the most difficult time … [Read more...]
Miniature Quilt
It is great to test new designs on miniature quilts. As I don't make miniatures often, I almost forgot how quickly a quilt can be made. And, if there are lessons to be learned, then it is great to learn them without too much work/wasting/regrets. I am not fond of fusible web, I don' t like stiff patches. But fusible web has some advantages. I printed the templates on it and my … [Read more...]
Loving Hugs Quilt
I finally managed to take photos of this quilt. I love how it turned out. I wanted an aqua-red quilt but since I don't have too many fabrics in these colors in my stash, I had to add green, pink, turquoise. The quilting is simple, done with free motion and wavy lines. Initially, I thought that stippling would be great too (since the prints are so busy), but I wanted to see a little more … [Read more...]
Hexy quilt top…
...almost done. Thanks to all my three sisters! We have to make now a few partial flowers to straighten the edges. I hope you are having a great day, Geta … [Read more...]
Cute finds
I found these on Fabric Depot website. I can't live without thread snips. They are essentials for my shadow trapunto quilts. And for cutting thread while I piece my quilts, or cleaning the edge of the quilt before adding binding. I don't use too often regular, big scissors. So I need tons of these. I think I have about 10 in my "studio" so I can easily find one in any place I need … [Read more...]
