For my newsletter subscribers. For May, June, July! It's not that I did not have time for the monthly newsletter. The inspiration just did not hit me the way I wanted! Lately I like to quilt feathers on everything! I love how easy it is to fill any space with feathers. So I thought that these designs are great to practice quilting feathers. They look great as fusible raw edge appliques. … [Read more...]
Basting a quilt sandwich
How do you baste your quilts ? When I started quilting, I basted some quilts with thread. I did not like it at all. Now, after many hand pieced hexagons, I don't think this is such a terrible thing to do. Then I tried safety pins - huge holes appeared in the fabric - unsightly! I just couldn't use them. Then I started to use pins and loved it; now I always use pins. The basting is fast and … [Read more...]
Fabric Prettiness
It's so easy to shop fabric for bags. And much cheaper than fabric for quilts! All I need is two fabrics, usually a total of 1.5 yards. So when new collections arrive and I have a moment when I forget about my growing stash, I buy some. So here are a few of my new favorite prints. This summer I plan to sew a lot of bags. Heather Bailey - "Up parasol" Jeni Baker - "Dreamin Vintage" Kitty … [Read more...]
Ikea Fabric
Do you buy Ikea fabric ? Here is the latest addition to my stash. A medium weight cotton. I thought to use them for the back of some decorative pillows I want to sew. This weight works great for bags too. For the bag below I paired it with a Decovil light interfacing and I loved it. They would be perfect as lining for bags too. Below there is a heavyweight cotton. I made these bags … [Read more...]
New Hint!
Not much achieved this week. I washed and bound three quilts and took tons of pictures. Still I don't have good pictures. Here is the binding attached. And the quilting on the background. I thought only pebbles is boring so that here and there I quilted some flowers. Do you want another hint? How about the technique? This is a quilt I made probably 10 years ago. Each piece was … [Read more...]
Enjoying colors
It's just... BINDING! I made it to match the pattern of my new quilt. It was a last minute idea and I surprised myself that I did not say: "NO, NO WAY!". I thought it worth the effort. The white strips measure 3/8''. The others are 2 1/2''. I used about 35 different colors of Kona cotton. I think the quilt has even more colors. Still a lot to do for this quilt! Until I hang … [Read more...]
Jeans Needles
I love and appreciate jeans needles more and more. They saved my sanity when I quilted with the Aurifil 12wt thick thread and these days I had another nice surprise. I had to quilt over fusible web appliques; I used Aurifil 50wt thread and a topstitch needle; I tested the thread tension on a small regular sandwich - no appliques. Perfect stitches. Then I started to quilt over the appliques - … [Read more...]

My “Soy Amado”
The beginning of this week found me with a stack of four quilt tops waiting for quilting. One of the quilt took me three days (can't wait to show you, I still have to wash it) and the next one three hours! I just needed an "easy" quilt to quilt! I love to quilt but I am really tired of challenges! So this project came just in time! Alison of "Little Island Quilting" is making quilts for … [Read more...]
