Yesterday was my birthday - I am getting older! But the good news is that I am very happy with my life and I have no desire to be 20 years old again. It was a special day, because I received this cake from my dear friend Sanda. Do you remember this quilt ? Sanda was part of it; I would have loved to share it with all my quilting friends that were part of the quilt. Isn't the … [Read more...]
Square in Square Quilt
Here is my new quilt, made with Kona cotton. 40'' x 40'' After I quilted feathers on hexagons I wanted to see how the feathers look quilted on squares. It was easy to fill the space with feathers. The back - more texture than color - I would have loved the quilting to be more visible. Next time I will have to experiment quilting with thick thread. And here are … [Read more...]
WIP
The hardest part of my quilt is done. With the help of one sister and a glue pen, I finished the hand piecing. I really love the glue pen - it makes the "basting" process so fast; and I couldn't believe how accurate my pieces were. There were only 180 pieces, for a 30" little piece... and only 8 pieces like these ones - so happy that I finished with them! Matching 8 seams wasn't easy … [Read more...]
A New English Paper Pieced Quilt
Maybe some of you are wondering if I will ever make another quilt ?? It seems this year is the year of bags. I am working on 3 new bags but I put them aside and finally started a new quilt. These are the templates - carefully cut out by my hubby. I need his help! Still in love with English paper piecing. There will be many colors... tied together by Kona cotton bone … [Read more...]
Canadian Smocking
I tried this technique on a piece of faux leather - and I love it. I used pearl cotton thread to make the knots- it wasn't hard at all; I think I have a type of faux leather that is easy to work with. Now to turn it into an useful piece- it seems a little tricky. Have a great week, Geta … [Read more...]
Topstitching on faux leather
I have a few colors of faux leather and I can't sew anything else until I use them all; so I started! This time I stitched the seam allowances down with a very thick, decorative thread. It's 100% polyester and shiny. I think it looks like the thread used for topstitching on jeans. I have a few colors, I am glad I found an use for them. NOTE: In this picture I did not stitch with … [Read more...]
Pretty, and it is not fabric
I saw these on Pinterest, I pinned them and I now I own them. While in Paris in searching for the famous macaroons, I found a Cath Kidston shop. My hubby probably thought I am a little crazy - seeing my happy dance! He has no idea who is Cath Kidston. It wasn't easy to choose the favorite thing! I bought her book too - inspirational! I am more than … [Read more...]
Faux Leather Cardholder
These days I am playing with faux leather. I wanted to cut out a pattern from it and I tried the technique on a small thing. I printed the pattern on paper and I created a stencil. I used a stencil cutter from Olfa. Then I transferred the pattern to the back of the faux leather and cut it out - with the same stencil cutter. It worked wonderfully. I made a cardholder. On … [Read more...]
How to Sew Kaleidoscope Hexagons
Do you know the "stack-n-whack" kaleidoscope technique (I learned it from a book by Bethany Reynolds ); I used it often in my first years of quilting. Even now, when I see a beautiful print, I imagine how it would look like in a kaleidoscope quilt. This technique is about stacking multiple layers of fabric with identical print (fabric repeats) and cutting shapes to create a block with a … [Read more...]
