Amelie, Belle, Chantal - now it's Danielle (thank you to my Danielle reader who suggested this name )! And definitely will be a bag name starting with "E" this year. I made this "Danielle" for my friend Sanda. My sister Oana did not have any complaint about her "Danielle" , so that I did not make any change to the pattern. The fabrics are from Jenean Morrison "In My Room" collection, … [Read more...]
Quick and easy way to add corner triangles to quilt blocks
I missed working on a patchwork quilt, but I wasn't prepared for 144 blocks! Who makes a king size quilt with 8'' blocks? But I started it so I have to finish it. Adding these squares to the corners of the block (to make triangle corner) is the only time-consuming step. But there is a way to speed up the process, without drawing a diagonal line on each square or folding the square to … [Read more...]
Thread for English Paper Piecing
Last year, when I stitched the hexagon quilt, I wasn't concerned about the thread used for hand piecing the hexagons together; I had many colors of a cotton thread and I tried to piece the hexagons with matching thread. But for our group quilt, we want the stitching be invisible. This is not easy to achieve if you don't have the proper thread. One of my friends told me about the silk … [Read more...]
Basting fabric to paper
I am disappointed by the bad pictures I took last night, but I like to have some "work in progress" pictures of our group quilt. These are the pieces basted by me and my 3 sisters. As always- it is great to have sisters (and many!); I don't know what they love more: to help me or to baste hexagons! You wouldn't say, but here there are almost 700 pieces. Some of them needed a lot of … [Read more...]
Teach Me-9 – Working with Templates
Photo from AllPeopleQuilt.com/ click to find out more. I tried the technique a few times and it works. It is not fun to do it on 1100 pieces, but it works great for irregular shapes and not so many patches! Have a great sewing week, Geta … [Read more...]
New Tote Bag
I managed to sew the winter tote bag for my sister Oana before the end of the winter! The quilt fabric is "quilted" on Timtex interfacing. For a tote bag, there is nothing better than an exterior pocket. The pocket is constructed the same way as the pockets of my other bags - only it's half of work (one pocket instead of two)! My sister will "test" it and soon I will write the … [Read more...]
Washable Markers for Quilters
In fact, these are markers for kids. They are ultra washable. And cheap! It's a good idea to test them before marking an entire quilt. Mine were already tested - on this quilt. Have a great sewing day, Geta … [Read more...]
WIP – Hexagon Cubes
I finished the hexagon cubes. 2 or 3 cubes were stitched by my sister Nina. The picture doesn't show the real colors, no matter how much I tried! Now I have to baste other 120 hexagons to place them around the cubes. I am linking to: … [Read more...]

Heart Box Tutorial
You probably already noticed my addiction for boxes! This time, I made one in an unusual shape - a heart box. Follow this heart box tutorial and sew your own box. I made 3! This is the first one, I used the template below. It measures about 10'' x 11''. For the next two I printed the template at 90% and 80%. You need: - heavyweight interfacing - double side fusible interfacing is the … [Read more...]
