What is Modern Reverse Applique?
Instead of layering fabric on top and stitching around it, this technique involves cutting a design from a top layer and fusing the cutout pieces onto a new background. This means:
One design, two quilts! The cutout shapes are repurposed, creating a second quilt effortlessly.

If you don't want to approach a 32'' design, I made four 20'' designs for you. A list of materials needed for each design is included.
Prefer clean edges? No problem!
I washed my reverse appliqué quilt, but if you’d rather keep the edges nearly intact with minimal fraying, the pattern includes instructions on how to skip the wash.
For the appliqué quilt, I used heavy quilting close to the edges, but if you prefer, you can secure all the edges with a fine zig-zag stitch. Either way, quilting is easy and fun!
