Here are my first quilts of 2016.
Heart designs for mini wall hangings, or pillows or a center piece on a table.
This is “Happy Heart”, done in a multicolor Fossil Fern fabric.
A 14” design that was quickly appliqued and quilted.
I worked with just one funny piece!
I thought that the simple (but wonderful) design deserves a finishing in style so I added piping to the binding. It’s a detail that takes so little time (and a small piece of fabric) but has a big impact.
When you have a favorite piece of fabric but it is not enough for binding a quilt, then adding piping is a good idea to showcase that fabric. I made my piping strips 3/4” wide.
To be effective, the color of the piping should contrast with the color of the background of the quilt and the color of the binding. It’s easy to use the same fabric for both.
The design below measures only 12”.
The quilting was quick, easy and fun. Glad that I used the walking foot again for quilting!
I did not use a zig zag stitching to secure the edges of the applique pieces. I love the straight stitching done close to the edges – this is the look after washing.
This is the third design.
It was fun to quilt all those oval pieces.
All the fabrics are Fossil Fern by Benartex and everything was quilted with Aurifil 50wt.
I am not sure I will have time to sew the fourth design before Valentine’s Day.
Do you plan to sew something for your loved ones?
Patterns for these quilts are available now in my pattern shop.
Happy sewing,
Geta
