Some time ago I read on a blog about a quilter who was criticizing the work of another quilter, just in the front (face) of that quilter. And even more, she proclaimed herself a “Quilter with capital Q”. Really ?
Working on this quilt, I think I am not a “Quilter”. Because I quilt it by machine. I would have loved to quilt it by hand – but this is something I couldn’t achieve in this busy life.
I think I am something between “quilter” and “Quilter”.
I look forward to the day I could call myself a”Quilter”. I will have to have under my belt two new projects: a Cathedral Windows quilt and a Double Wedding Ring quilt -my challenges for the next year.
Does “Quilter” have a special meaning to you?

i tell people i do not machine quilt- i hand quilt with an electric needle.
some people's heads explode if they don't find something to complain about 🙂

Please tell me this post was being sarcastic.
You are without a doubt a Quilter.
Quite honestly, I believe I am a Quilter.
Before I knew how to quilt (join 3 layers together) I called myself a piecer, and maybe if I wanted to be judgey I would say all the people who send their work out instead of quilting it themselves are not quilters, but I'm not going to be judgey, so they can call themselves as well. They can call themselves Quilters if they want- because chances are, their piecing is pretty awesome, whereas I focus on the quilting so my piecing, not so much.
We are all good at different things. Do we really need a ranking system?

So schön und interesante Arbeit.)

I agree with all of the ladies above. You are a quilter with an "
A" for awesome. I wonder if that one who was being so judgemental has accomplished even a 10th of what you have. I have hand quilted 3 medium sized quilts but have done many, many more by machine. And I considered that I was "quilting" through them all. You set high goals all the time and always manage to surpass those goals. Ignore the chickens..they will always be peeping about something not important.

i would say you are a Quilter..i too am making not 1 but 2 grandmothers flower garden quilts so 2 daughters wont have to fight over who gets it lol….

You make the most mind blowing quilts. You are without a doubt a QUILTER, all caps, all the time.

I would call you a Quilter – the free machine work on these blocks looks amazing!

Any one who loves to quilt is a Quilter with a Capital Q! It matters not the skill level! If you try, you are a Quilter!
Karen says
Geta — we are all quilters with a capital "Q"….
Anyone who takes the time to stitch, create, learn, grow and share their love of fabric, needle and thread is a Quilter…
Certainly don't second guess yourself.. you are such a very talented Quilter!
Hugs,
Karen

I think your quilting is beautiful. I wish I could machine quilt but it's too hard. I hand quilt because I'm not talented enough to do it with the machine. Machine quilting is beautiful and interesting. . .hand quilting is slow and tedious!

Your hexies are Amazing with a capital A! Plain and simple.

Life is too short to focus on other's shortcomings to cover up your own. The self-proclaimed Quilter may be good at what she does, but that doesn't make up for bad manners.
The only requirement for being a Quilter with a capital Q is loving what you do. I think you already qualify.
Your work is beautiful! I admire your amazing talent & have two patterns of yours that I hope to get to soon.

Your quilting is beautiful! I have no idea what that person was trying to say with her "capital Q", but I think you are safe to just ignore her and keep doing what you want, the way you want to do it!

Greta, you are a "QUILTER". Just because you don't have time to handd quilt a quilt doesn't take the quilter out of you. I do all my piecing and quilting on my home sewing machine. Does that make me less of a quilter? I don't think so. I'm sorry you've had to see supposed other "quilters" put down another quilter for what ever reason, thats just being mean and inconsiderate. It also tells me that they are insecure in themselves as a quilt and try and make themselves look good in front of another quilter. I'm going to hush for now, but don't you dare hold your head down or think you are not a quilter. You are one in every since of the words!
God Bless and hope you have a great day! Maria

You are definitely a Quilter! My mother was a hand Quilter. I will never be more than a quilter (by machine), but I enjoy the process and isn't that what it's really all about? Our love for what we do?
Mommarock says
Anyone who can make something as beautiful with fabric as you do is a quilter however you capitalize it. that is rediculous! I only wish I could make my sewing machine do all of the beautiful things that you can do with yours!! Goodness knows I would hop right on to doing that instead of all the poky slow hand stitching that I am doing.

I am guessing the person who declared herself a quilter with a capital Q is perhaps one of those closed minded people that think everything must be done or experienced like it was many years ago to be considered genuine. So sad for her as she can not experience learning new techniques, etc.
Don't feel intimidated by these kind of persons as that is what they are aiming for. The want to make what they do or how they do it the most important and do not want to share praise with another.
Keep making the wonderful quilts you do and enjoy every minute of it as your are indeed a quilter with a capital Q!
Leah says
I say you are a QUILTER, all caps! I am always in awe of your work. Don't worry about these people who say things should be a certain way. Just worry about what you like to do.
I've noticed most people who complain that a quilt isn't a true quilt unless it is hand quilted (or appliquéd by hand) are the same people who refuse to embrace any type of technology. They don't handle change well, which in turn limits their progress of future endeavors.
I say embrace change, respect and appreciate the ways of the past, but also take advantage of the new ways of the future!

I agree, you are an awesome quilter and I love your designs. You have taken trapunto to a new level of excellence and I love that you keep challenging yourself!
Sharon says
I think your work is amazing! Forget the critics and forge ahead. You are an inspiration to many!
Irene says
I don't think there would be that difference. Everyone who embraces this work and makes a piece, hand or machine quilted, is a Quilter, and you are definitely an AMAZING Quilter. And an excellent designer. For being a self-taught Quilter, your designs are original, very detailed and always, always a masterpiece. I've been quilting for 5 years, piecing by machine and quilting by hand. Simple, not elaborated designs. Until now I'm just beginning to learn machine quilting, so I really admire who does as stunning work as you do.
