I saw this question on the cover of The Quilt Life magazine. Probably a few quilters answer to this question inside the magazine, I think it would be interesting to found out their answer.
For me, definitely it is PLAY that requires a lot of WORK. Otherwise, I don’t understand why I feel guilty when I buy fabrics! Well, sometimes, I am almost depressed. My hubby says “it’s for business” but I always have the feeling that it is for ME!
Anyway, in the first 6 months of this year I did not buy more than 5 yards of fabric, but in July – OMG – I need a new space for storing fabric!
These are a few of my new fabrics – I am IN LOVE with Ann Kelle‘s collections- dots, stripes, chevrons, ovals then many prints for children. And not only for children !
Here are the winners of the Show Off your Stuff- thank you all for participating.
1. Jitka – one kit with everything you need to make a bag – excepting fabric and
thread- 1 yard (35 ” wide) of the fabulous Decovil light interfacing
(that I LOVE and it is not available everywhere), some zippers and
magnetic snaps.
Jitka, please email me your address.
2. a collection of 5 patterns – your choice – choose from Geta’s patterns- please email me your choices.

Lovely fabrics. Congrats to winners. Sewing is my hobby so it's just play as I don't sell anything.

Those are the happiest fabrics I've seen in a long time. No wonder you bought all of them! I wouldn't have been able to resist, either! Sewing has always been my hobby and I love to play to make quilts. But since it's also my livlihood (the way I pay my bills), it also is work and there are many times it feels like working. That's why it's important to work with fabrics that you love and make you smile when you work with them (like those in your pictures!)

Love the fabrics, but love it even more that I am a winner Wow! Yippee! I am so thrilled. Thank you so much.

I love to sew and quilt because it is relaxing to me, so it is definitely play for me!

It's a bit of both for me too. I love to sew and have for most of my life, but I teach quilting classes so it's work too, but work that I love!

fun fabrics! I play, except when I'm making a quilt for money or obligation, then it's work.

Definitely play. I always feel so relaxed after I have been working on a project. By the way, I love the fabrics, especially the ovals. I have used those in a couple of projects lately.

Most definitely, play; however, like you I feel really guilty when I buy fabric but only for a minute. I say to myself, this will turn into beautiful quilts someday. Last year, I tried not to buy any fabric, succeeded only a little. This year it is bad! I have been buying fabric as if the world is running out of it. So many beautiful collections are out there.

PLAY!! When quilting becomes work I take a break… I love your selection of fun happy fabrics.
Paula says
Play without a doubt at the moment. If it became work in the future it would only be because I enjoy it so much and had decided to make it my job.

Quilting is mostly fun for me, but sometimes, when there is something I feel I HAVE to finish up, then it becomes work. I'm getting a lot better at finishing up before starting another, though, and haven't bought fabric in a long time (using my huge stash!)

It is what I do, for enjoyment, giving back, artistic outlet, gift giving! It is work, (but not a job!! At this point I don't sell anything either) but the kind of work that you can't wait to do!!
Laura Franci says
Definitely play; it relaxes me and I really enjoy it.

PS: I'm so happy to be a winner. Tanks very much

Forgot to say that I am play, can't think of having the pressure of making for other people.
