Some time ago I told you that I use these ultra washable markers to mark my quilts.
These are markers for kids, I found them in a supermarket, 12 pieces for about $4!
I already use a few on my quilts, but I thought it is time for an in-depth testing. I read that some markers disappear after washing but become visible again if the fabric is exposed to low temperature.
So I marked a piece of fabric then I pressed it very well.
Then I washed and dried it and then I forgot it in the freezer for a few days.
Today I remembered about it and with some emotions I removed it from the freezer. I pressed it again!
And I am happy to report that I have an immaculate white piece of fabric.
Now I am happy that I have 12 markers for the price of one of the old markers I used before!
The brand I found is French, but I suppose other brands have similar markers too. If you buy them, test them before using them on your best quilt!

I think it's the iron-away Frixion pens that are a big problem with reappearing in cold temperatures. Using these is a great idea if you're planning to wash the quilt anyway–I'm going to have to look for some!

I need to go check out those markers, thanks!

So the quilt has to be washed, not just moistened with water?

Are these the markers that at first don't really appear to have any color but then color shows up in about 3-5 seconds? Thanks, I always learn so much from you!
DeAnna S says
Thanks for the test and the tip! I've not bought any because of the cons you pointed out.

I've been using the Frixion pen for a while now and it does the same thing. These pens are less expensive than the Frixion ~ money saved for more fabric!!!

That is a great find! Thank you!!

Thank you so much. I've been hearing about alternatives but haven't tried any. The Frixion pen is ok but leaves a faint white/gray line that I don't like. Will be purchasing these this week.

Great idea, Geta. My daughter has the same markers, but I am not satisfied with them. I had problems during washing my fabric. Colors are still on the fabric 🙁
Maybe I bought a defective product.

Have always been a little afraid to try the washout kids markers but maybe I will have to give them another try.
