I couldn’t imagine that sewing shopping bags is so much fun!
I have now one more reason to look for beautiful home decor fabric.
And of course, I had to make some bags from quilt weight cotton too. They don’t have lining, so you can’t use them for things that weight too much. I LOVE them because they don’t take much space in a bag.
One more bag (out of faux leather) on the list!
Happy sewing!

Such pretty and practical bags Geta! With so many of us trying to do away with the need for plastic carrier bags these days, its such fun to have a bunch of beautiful bags to use.
In UK we have places called Scrapstore(s) I wonder if you have any over there?
They are recycling centres that offer, clean industrial waste materials that can be used for creative play with children.
Firms donate waste that is suitable for handling by children, rather than send it to landfill, which would cost them of course!
Most Scrapstores also have fabric ends from a variety of places, end of line samples from big stores ( ours gets them from NEXT and B&Q) and fabric offcuts from curtain makers too.
I know some cities in the US have similar places so maybe you could search for one near you? Its a great source of often expensive fabrics and theres generally at least enough to make bags like yours here!
Ours also gets huge rolls of silky fabrics but not many know they are roll ends from the local funeral business !!

Unfortunately, there is no Scrapstore here. Many years ago I contacted a small firm that sells home decor fabric and they gave me some of their samples. Many were curtain samples and I found no use for them. For the pretty home decor fabrics I made a few bags and the simple drapery fabric was used as lining. I know I was very excited at the time. Thank you for your comment, it encourages me to ask again for samples!!

I loved making them too when I made mine! When I go to the store everyone asks me where I got my bags and I tell them I made them. And they hold sooo much.

These are so beautiful! Much prettier than the scratchy synthetic bags I see around here. I wish I had had time to test for you, but I see you have done very well in making lots of gorgeous models by yourself! Can't wait to see the tester versions as well…and then the pattern!

This makes me want to revisit the beautiful decorator samples I get from a local mill end shop that does custom orders. I have so many lovely and large pieces of linen with flowers and even stripes. You have done such gorgeous work! You've inspired me! Yes, do go back and ask for those samples. My local shop actually throws them away (gasp!), so I rescue them and give them a new life.

Love the checks and stripes. What fun it would be to have a whole collection of matching and coordinating shopping bags to take into the grocery store to stock up on things.
