Why 2 in 1 quilt?
Because on the back it looks like a trapunto quilt…
…and the front is actually a shadow trapunto quilt. A 40” quilt.
You usually see details like this one below in the background of my photos.
It is a quilt that I use for its back! I made it in 2008! I could say it’s a utilitarian quilt! It’s the only wall hanging I use, but not as wall hanging!
Since 2008 I washed it twice.
The front was important only when I took a picture of it and sent it to a big show in France. It was rejected! The theme was “feathers”!
So this quilt made me cry – silly Geta! I was so disappointed because I thought this quilt is much better than other two quilts that were accepted in the Houston show!
The technique was much improved (my free motion quilting skills, actually), unlike the one on my first shadow trapunto quilts.
It was entirely quilted with monofilament (invisible) thread. At the time I was a big fan of this thread. Not anymore – because the thread is so fine, the holes left by needle in fabric are more apparent (still, sometimes this thread is a must, so I have a few spools to hand!).
So, this is the story of this quilt (I receive often questions about the quilt in the background of my photos). It wasn’t good for a show in France, but it is PERFECT for my photography!! And it definitely is one of my favorite quilts and I don’t know when I will have time again for so much cutting batting away!
If trapunto and shadow trapunto are new techniques to you, here are two tutorials.

well, Geta…it is a loss for France!!! I am no judge, but this looks like perfection to me!!! I can't imagine ever quilting like this, myself…stunning!!!!!
Chris says
Like all your quilts, this is incredible!! I admire your talent.

The judges must have left their glasses at home that day, beautiful workmanship.

Well that's France's loss. You know the French.
It's outstanding in my book.

That is truly gorgeous! I have seen it in many of your photos and always admired it. Quilt shows get lots of entries and it must be hard for them to decide which ones not to take………not a job I would want. I bet if you would have tried other shows it would have been accepted.

I've always loved this quilt and admired all the work that went into it.

I love the story of your quilt! Our quilts are somehow also our hearts in our hand, held out…..contests don't tell the whole story Geta. They are just a slice of life really. Your work is inspired and so is the story of your journey as a quilter.
