How to finish the edge of a hexagon quilt? If you are not interested in keeping the edges of the hexagons intact, then the easiest and fastest way to finish the edges of hexagon quilts is to just straighten them.
So you spent a lot of time finishing a top like this Grandmother’s Flowers Garden I made some time ago- congratulations!
Do you have an assistant like mine? Very helpful!
The edges should look like this picture.
You have to prepare the quilt sandwich and quilt as desired.
Then trim the edges like this, using a long ruler and rotary cutter. Simple and easy – you have now straight edges.
Here is a close up.
And one more.
Have you made a Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt? I am so happy that I was able to make one! I think it is a pattern/technique that teaches you many things and any quilter should try at least a small version.
My big love for hexagons started with this quilt (more pictures here).
