This is one of my favorite shadow trapunto quilts. It measures about 35”.
The design was inspired by a sashiko pattern; I adore its simplicity.
You must think that it was hard to cut away this intricate design. Not at all!
Do you remember the AMAZING tool I use for cutting away?? With these thread snips, it is so easy to access any area you need to cut away. Its tip is sharp and because the blade is short, you have an amazing control over what you have to cut away.
And the (trapunto) back!
I must admit: this technique produces AMAZING quilts!

Happy quilting!
Geta, have you ever made a twin or fill size shadow trump unto quilt, and if you have, how hard would it be to increase the size of one of your patterns? I would love to make one, just not sure where to start.
Hi Tracy!
The biggest shadow trapunto quilt I have made is 52”.
If you want to increase the size of a pattern, you have to take the pattern and go to a copy shop to do it for you.
But pay attention to the size of the motifs- they may be too big! A pattern that looks great at 20” could look hideous at 40”!
If you want to make a big quilt, I think it is easier to use the quilt as you go technique; sew smaller blocks, quilt them, then assemble them into the big quilt. It’s much easier and you could use many patterns!
I hope this helps!
