If you need to sew a really quick project to share with your loved ones, how about this one?
A pouch made out of faux leather/vinyl (I used oilcloth), with an applique heart, but not the regular heart. Let’s add a puffy effect to it.
You need a 8” x 12” piece of vinyl.
On the back of this piece, draw a rectangle 1/2” x 6”. Draw it centered as shown below.
With a rotary cutter and ruler, cut out the drawn rectangle.
Stitch a zipper under the opening.
For the next steps you need a heart template.
Click here to download heart templates. I used the 4” heart.
I used the 4” heart. Using this template, cut a heart from a piece of vinyl in a color that contrasts with the background vinyl.
Then cut out about 1/4” (3/8”) from the paper template and use this smaller template to cut a heart from foam (the thicker the foam the better).
Here is the foam heart- smaller than the vinyl heart.
On the back of the vinyl heart add double adhesive tape, near the edges. Add glue (generous amount) to the foam heart .
Remove the paper backing of the tape then center the foam heart – glue side down, on the vinyl heart.
Then add again glue on the foam heart…
… then center it on the background vinyl as shown. Finger-press the heart well, so it stays in place.
Stitch close to the edge of the heart, then one more time (or even two times) inside the heart as shown below. The key is not to catch the foam into the seam.
Then fold the background vinyl in half as shown and stitch along the three edges.
The pouch is finished. I think you can stitch it in less than half hour!
