Do you find it challenging to choose fabrics for your quilts?
If so, here are some strategies I frequently use that might help.
1. How to choose fabrics for quilts – MULTICOLOR STRIPED FABRIC
One of the most versatile and economical fabric options for quilts is multicolor striped fabric. With just one piece, you will have a variety of colors for your quilting projects. Instead of purchasing multiple fabrics, you can achieve the same effect with just one, saving you both money and time spent on selecting assorted fabrics.
Depending on the width of the fabric’s strips and the size of the pieces needed for your quilts, you could have only one color on your pieces or multiple colors, and sometimes this will transform completely your design!

2. How to choose fabrics for quilts – BACKGROUND FABRIC
When choosing a background fabric for my quilt/blocks, I prefer to avoid large prints or those with too many colors or busy patterns that might distract from the block’s design. Instead, I opt for simple designs and contrasting colors that complement the main fabrics of the quilt.
3. How to choose fabrics for quilts – NEW FABRICS
If you need to buy new fabrics for a quilt, consider selecting a few from the same collection. Choose one fabric for the background and purchase more of it, then decide how many prints from the collection you’ll need.
4. How to choose fabrics for quilts – USING YOUR STASH
For those sourcing fabrics from their stash, here’s a suggestion: start with one main print fabric and search your stash for fabrics in colors that match this main print. Decide on the number of fabrics you’d like to incorporate based on your preferences.
I hope these ideas will be helpful to you in various ways!
