Sometimes, adding a rounded corner to a bag or pouch can enhance its design beautifully. However, you might hesitate to incorporate them because they require a bit more attention.
Here are some tips to help you add this elegant finishing touch to your projects:
How to bind rounded edges – TIP #1
You’ll need bias tape to bind curved or rounded edges. You can buy bias tape, or if you prefer a specific fabric, you can cut and make your own.
Certain fabrics, like polka dots, stripes, black and white patterns, or rainbow fabrics, are versatile and work well with many projects. If you have extra fabric in these patterns, you can create yards of bias tape to use in various projects.
While store-bought tape is convenient, preparing your binding can make you appreciate your project even more.
How to bind rounded edges – TIP #2
If you make your binding, join the bias strips with diagonal seams. The joining seam will be less visible and the tape will wrap nicely around the edge.
How to bind rounded edges – TIP #3
Because you are using strips cut on the bias, it will be easy to shape them along the rounded edge. Use plenty of clips to keep the tape in place.
How to bind rounded edges – TIP #4
Use glue to keep the tape in place, especially at the rounded corners. Then add clips! This is a tremendous help if you are a beginner.

You can even trim into the seam allowance of the binding, as shown in the picture below, to easily align the tape along the curved edge.
How to bind rounded edges – TIP #6
Ensure you maintain the seam allowance at the rounded corners. If you increase the seam allowance, when you fold the tape to the other side, you might not be able to catch the bias tape on that side in the final seam!
I hope this helps!
I am a beginner at binding rounded edges myself, and I can tell you that just a little practice will greatly improve your results!
