I contaminated one of my dear friends with the hexagon virus. She lives nearby and while I write this, I realize that in the future there will be opportunities to meet and stitch together.
Her name is Luminita. I met her in 2007, in dramatic circumstances, for our family and for her as well. We helped each other, probably she helped us more than we helped her. And she became our friend, and even more than a friend, she is like a sister.
She always loved my quilts and always was interested to know how I made this or that quilt. She loves the quilt I made for her little boy and she was in love with the Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt I made with my sisters.
As you don’t have to be a quilter to stitch hexagons, I taught her how to do it. I cut squares and filled a box.
I cut paper templates and selected a few spools of thread….
and she was ready to sew. She has no stitching experience, and look what wonderful job she did. She stitched this flower in a few hours.
She leaves the country for 2 months and next time when I see her, I am sure she will have a lot of stitched flowers.

Geta, that is wonderful – a stitching friend for you! And I am sure it won't be long until she starts all sorts of quilting – as we know – it IS highly addictive.
Your friend seems to be a natural at stitching. But then, she had an awesome teacher ;)!
I've also caught the bug! I'm making a full hexi quilt, and am so excited about it!

Great story. Lovely flower. Good friends always share those things that make them happy. Even infections like hexie-virus! I look forward to seeing what Luminita creates during those 2 months with some beautiful handwork. Thanks for sharing.
Hexies are addictive, but fun addictive. And a perfect project for when one travels. I do hope Luminita has fun and I look forward seeing what she has created when she returns.
